Designed for storage-intensive enterprise and data centre environments, the Dell PowerEdge R760xd2 Rack Server is a highly configurable 16th Generation 2U dual-socket server combining Intel Xeon processing, DDR5 memory, exceptional storage density and high-speed NVMe technology. Available from EuroPC as a configure-your-own barebone server, this R760xd2 chassis features 24 × 3.5-inch Hot-Swap SAS/SATA drive bays, 4 × rear E3.S NVMe Gen5 bays and a Dell BOSS-N1 boot module, making it particularly well suited to backup, archive, software-defined storage, virtualisation, analytics, file services and large enterprise data repositories.
The Dell PowerEdge R760xd2 supports up to two 4th or 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, providing substantial multi-core and multi-threaded performance for demanding enterprise workloads. Its dual-socket architecture allows high-capacity storage to be combined with the compute resources required for virtualisation, databases, data processing, analytics and other business-critical applications.
Storage density is one of the defining strengths of the PowerEdge R760xd2. This chassis provides 24 × 3.5-inch Hot-Swap SAS/SATA drive bays, arranged as 12 front and 12 mid-drive bays. This high-density design allows compatible enterprise HDD and SSD configurations to be deployed within a compact 2U rack footprint, making the R760xd2 an excellent platform for high-capacity backup repositories, archive storage, file servers, media libraries, large datasets and software-defined storage.
In addition to the main SAS/SATA storage, this configuration provides 4 × rear E3.S NVMe Gen5 drive bays. E3.S NVMe storage delivers high-bandwidth, low-latency PCIe connectivity and can be configured as a dedicated performance tier alongside the capacity-focused SAS/SATA array. This makes the rear NVMe bays particularly useful for databases, caching, metadata, virtual machines, application data and other performance-sensitive enterprise workloads.
The combination of 24 high-capacity SAS/SATA bays and 4 rear E3.S NVMe Gen5 bays allows the PowerEdge R760xd2 to support mixed storage architectures within a single server. Organisations can combine large-capacity HDD or SSD storage with a separate high-performance NVMe tier, providing an effective balance of capacity, throughput and low-latency storage performance.
Compatible 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives can also be installed within the 3.5-inch bays using suitable conversion carriers, providing further flexibility when combining enterprise HDD and SSD storage. Compatible Dell PERC RAID controllers and HBA solutions can be selected according to the required performance, capacity and redundancy level. Storage controllers and data drives are not included unless specifically selected as part of the server configuration.
A Dell BOSS-N1 boot module is included, providing dedicated support for compatible M.2 boot drives independently of the main SAS/SATA and E3.S NVMe storage. Separating operating system storage from application and business data helps preserve the primary drive bays for workload storage while providing a dedicated boot solution. BOSS M.2 SSDs are not included and can be selected separately as part of the server configuration.
With 16 DDR5 RDIMM slots and support for up to 1.5TB of DDR5 ECC Registered memory, dependent on processor and memory configuration, the PowerEdge R760xd2 provides substantial memory capacity for demanding enterprise applications. DDR5 ECC memory makes the platform particularly well suited to virtual machines, storage services, databases, analytics and memory-intensive workloads where reliability and data integrity are essential.
Modern PCIe expansion provides high-bandwidth connectivity for compatible storage controllers, network adapters and other enterprise hardware. Support for Low Profile PCIe expansion allows the R760xd2 to be tailored for high-capacity storage, virtualisation, backup infrastructure and other data-intensive deployments.
Flexible networking can be configured through OCP 3.0 and compatible PCIe network adapters, allowing the PowerEdge R760xd2 to support high-speed storage traffic, virtualisation networks, private cloud connectivity and other demanding enterprise environments.
Advanced remote server administration is provided through Dell iDRAC9 and OpenManage, enabling remote monitoring, deployment, diagnostics, firmware management and lifecycle administration. These integrated management technologies help IT teams simplify day-to-day operations, improve visibility into server health and reduce the need for physical access to systems installed within the data centre.
