Designed for storage-intensive enterprise and data centre environments, the Dell PowerEdge R760xd2 Rack Server is a highly configurable 16th Generation 2U dual-socket server combining Intel Xeon processing, DDR5 memory, exceptional storage density and high-speed NVMe capability. Available from EuroPC as a configure-your-own barebone server, this R760xd2 configuration features 24 × 3.5-inch Hot-Swap SAS/SATA bays and 4 × 3.5-inch rear NVMe Flex Bays, making it particularly well suited to backup, archive, software-defined storage, virtualisation, analytics, file services and large data repositories.
The Dell PowerEdge R760xd2 supports up to two 4th or 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, providing substantial multi-core and multi-threaded performance for demanding enterprise workloads. Its dual-socket architecture allows the server to be configured for environments where large-scale storage must be combined with virtualisation, databases, data processing and other business-critical applications.
Storage density is one of the defining strengths of the PowerEdge R760xd2. This chassis provides 24 × 3.5-inch Hot-Swap SAS/SATA drive bays across the main storage sections, comprising 12 front and 12 mid-drive bays. This high-density design allows compatible enterprise HDDs or SSDs to be configured within a compact 2U rack footprint, making the R760xd2 an excellent platform for high-capacity backup repositories, archive storage, file servers, media libraries and software-defined storage.
In addition to the main SAS/SATA storage, this chassis features 4 × 3.5-inch rear NVMe Flex Bays. These rear bays are designed to support compatible 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe Gen4 drives using suitable Dell hybrid carriers, providing a dedicated high-speed storage tier alongside the main capacity-focused SAS/SATA array.
The combination of high-capacity SAS/SATA storage and rear NVMe capability gives the R760xd2 considerable flexibility for mixed enterprise workloads. NVMe storage can be used for low-latency application data, databases, caching, virtual machines or other performance-sensitive workloads, while the main 3.5-inch bays remain available for large-capacity HDD or SSD configurations.
Compatible 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drives can also be used within the 3.5-inch storage bays with suitable conversion carriers, providing additional flexibility when combining enterprise HDD and SSD storage. A range of compatible Dell PERC RAID and HBA solutions can be selected to tailor storage performance, redundancy and data protection to the requirements of the deployment.
The PowerEdge R760xd2 platform also supports an optional Dell BOSS-N1 boot solution, allowing compatible M.2 boot storage to be kept separate from the primary SAS/SATA and NVMe data drives. This can help preserve the main storage bays for application and business data. BOSS-N1, M.2 SSDs and other configurable components are not included unless specifically selected as part of the server configuration.
With 16 DDR5 RDIMM slots and support for up to 1.5TB of DDR5 ECC Registered memory, dependent on processor configuration, the PowerEdge R760xd2 provides the memory capacity and bandwidth required for demanding enterprise applications. DDR5 ECC memory makes the platform particularly well suited to virtual machines, storage services, databases, analytics and memory-intensive workloads where reliability and data integrity are essential.
Enterprise expansion capability provides support for compatible PCIe expansion hardware, including storage controllers, network adapters and other data centre devices. This allows the R760xd2 to be tailored for high-capacity storage, virtualisation, backup infrastructure and other data-intensive deployments.
Flexible networking options include support for OCP 3.0 and compatible PCIe network adapters, allowing the server to be configured for general enterprise networking, high-speed storage traffic, virtualisation networks and other demanding data centre environments.
Advanced remote server administration is provided through Dell iDRAC9 and OpenManage, enabling remote monitoring, deployment, diagnostics, firmware management and lifecycle administration. These integrated management technologies help IT teams simplify day-to-day operations and reduce the need for physical access to systems installed within the data centre.
