Description

The Dell BOSS-S2 (Boot Optimized Storage Solution) module, part number 0PKH3T, is a purpose-built hardware RAID controller designed to host the operating system independently of primary data storage in Dell PowerEdge servers. Ideal for virtualization and enterprise workloads, this compact module supports two hot-swappable M.2 SATA SSDs in a RAID 1 or JBOD configuration, ensuring high reliability and uptime. Unlike traditional boot devices, the BOSS-S2 connects to the server via dedicated power and signal cables, allowing it to be installed in a specialized bay rather than occupying a PCIe slot. This cable-connected design is compatible with select Dell PowerEdge 14th and 15th Generation servers, including R350, R550, R650, R750, and T550. The module supports Dell-validated M.2 SATA SSDs up to 480GB each, providing a redundant and high-performance solution for operating system deployment — perfect for environments running VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, or Linux.
